Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa, headquarters hotel for The Kauai Marathon, hosted the 3rd annual Bum Run on Saturday, March 25. The fun 2.7 mile walk/run course drew more than 140 participants who circled the first 7 holes of the Poipu Bay Golf Course, taking in breathtaking mountain and ocean views along the way. March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month and to heighten attention of the second most common form of cancer in the US, Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa coordinates this untimed event. Participants include many families, co-workers, neighbors and others looking for some exercise for a cause on terrain usually only seen by golfers. Though short, the hilly course makes for a fun afternoon. The awareness raising event began in 2015 after two colleagues at the resort were diagnosed. The event raised over $6,000 that will go to help a variety of island organizations by benefiting the Visitor Industry Charity Walk which takes place in May. The after party at Poipu Bay Clubhouse featured great door prizes and silent auction items. If you’re visiting Kauai next March, be sure to participate!
