Aloha runners, volunteers, sponsors, families, and friends of The Kauai Marathon and Half Marathon.
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the cancellation of the 2026 Kauai Marathon and Half Marathon scheduled for Sunday, September 6, 2026.
This was a difficult decision, and not one we wanted to make. Our production team has worked tirelessly to produce an amazing race for all of you. We have prepared every detail down to water, ice, and finish line food that will now be donated to the local community in preparation for the storm. From 10am until 2pm on Sunday, September 6th at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Group Entrance, residents can pick up these supplies.
Over the past 48 hours we explored alternate routes, reduced road closures, and other adjustments. None of those options were acceptable.
While Sunday morning weather is expected to be lovely, the concern is Monday and Tuesday, as Hurricane Lowell approaches.
After close consultation with the County of Kauai’s emergency response agencies, we have been advised that cancellation is the only responsible option.
Two priorities guided this decision:
- Community preparedness. Race-day road closures across Koloa, Poipu, Omao, Lawai, and Kalaheo would restrict movement at the exact time Kauai residents and businesses need open roads to finish storm preparations for Hurricane Lowell.
- Runner and volunteer safety. Conditions associated with the approaching storm, and the public-safety resources needed to support a large road race, cannot be guaranteed.
This was a last-resort decision. We know that many of you trained for months and traveled a long way to experience the allure of the Garden Isle. We are absolutely crushed.
Please follow official County of Kauai and National Weather Service guidance. Prepare now. Check on neighbors and friends and please keep roads clear for emergency and community use.
